Funding.

Restoring Flounders Folly is a difficult and costly project. The folly is in an isolated position, high on the top of Callow Hill and the access is poor. The work requires scaffolding for nine months, large quantities of stone have had to be brought from the Forest of Dean and the contractors have to use high quality workmanship and conservation methods throughout the job. The total cost, including interpretation and landscape work is over £300,000.The Flounders Folly Trust has been very fortunate in the generous response it has received from the public and from many charitable trusts and organisations. The main funders of the project, other than those who wish to remain anonymous, are:
  • The Heritage Lottery Fund, who made the magnificent main grant of £281,000.
  • The Local Heritage Initiative
  • Lord Leverhulme's Charitable Trust
  • The Esmée Fairburn Foundation
  • The Walker Trust
  • The Millichope Foundation
  • Lady More's Trust
  • Mr Robert Holden

Generous donations were also made by many members of the public. Donations of time by those who have researched the history, helped to clear the site, planted hedge plants, carried out nature surveys, etc. etc. are also gratefully acknowledged as without these the project would never have got off the ground. Further funds will be necessary for the future maintenance of the folly and donations may be made to the Hon Treasurer , Stuart Phillips
